Cathie McGill

 

H i there and thankyou for spending some time getting to know me.

I originally  founded of the Spirit of Yoga School in 1997 and directed Mindfulbody Yoga Studio in Norwood, South Australia. 

​My passion of understanding the body-mind-spirit connection has seen my studies now soar to 28 years of practice and research.  My excitement arises when I sees the syncronicities in life and the very thoughts - visions - experiences manifesting in both personal life and that of others. I loves nothing more to see people shift, open and move forward in their lives...It all began with a determination to overcome anxiety/depression and PTSD some 29 years ago -to become "conscious" within the Chaos has been an on-going journey.  Cathie commenced studies in Alternative Medicine and then Yoga in 1992. Her repertoire of teachers and certificates In Alternative Health, Yoga and Meditation, Healing are too many to mention here, some of the various teachers of Satyananda & Iyengar, Judith Lasater, Dr. Ian Gawler, MBSR, She has trained in Tibetan Buddhist  Meditation and worked one on one as a remedial  Myofascial & Cranio Sacral Therapy ( if it ends in rapy she has done it!). Both Reiki and Reconnective Healer. She brings both Eastern & Western practices together to form a basis for change

 

The class, the teacher and the student join together as one to support, prepare and nurture the whole of humanity so we can live a happier, more productive life. Cathie's intention is to introduce Yoga to others so they can use it to increase health and abundance and believes in offering an integrated approach to developing a balanced lifestyle free of any judgements only a a n intent to become embodied.

BACKGROUND

Cathie ran a successful Remedial Therapies practice for fourteen years using various Alternative Therapies including Remedial Massage, Myofascial Release and Cranio-sacral Therapy.

 

She started going to Yoga classes in the early 1990's when Yoga was still only partially accepted in the West and soon discovered that practising Yoga and Meditation was an important aspect to attaining a tension-free, relaxed body and in developing the ability to better cope with life's demands, leading to her move into Yoga Teaching. Working with numerous people over the years who experienced back and neck pain, anxiety and depression and general stress, Cathie realised those who were prepared to use Yoga, Breathing, Meditation and Relaxation in conjunction with Alternative Therapies to help their health and well-being recovered from stress much quicker.

Cathie was fortunate to have had as mentors two very good teachers who shared Yoga in an Integral way. She has since followed and explored a number of different styles and blends of practice and still finds herself learning and deepening her understanding and connection relating to the meaning and purpose of Yoga.

Cathie currently teaches Hatha Yoga and specialises in Restorative Yoga, offering personal instruction for anyone wanting tools to alleviate Anxiety, Depression, Stress and Physical Pain.

She loves Kyaking, rock n roll dancing, hiking and loads of sunshine, and her latest passion is developing her connection with her first grand child

EXPERIENCE

During long experience as a Remedial Therapist/Cranio sacral therapist and teaching Yoga and Meditation, Cathie has facilitated classes, workshops and personal instruction, run weekend retreats and lectured in the workplace. She has also been contracted by schools to teach students to improve their concentration and by league football clubs to improve players' flexibility and reduce/treat sports injury.

Cathie has studied with Kit Laughlin, a world authority in stretching and strengthening techniques and author of the best-selling books "Overcome Neck & Back Pain", "Stretching & Flexibility", and "Stretching & Pregnancy", and through these studies found a complementary method of stretching, strengthening and releasing the body of tension.

Cathie's passion for developing an understanding of who you truly are led her to deeper studies of the human psyche via the system of the Enneagram through Lawrence Grazious, a Buddha Dharma teacher from the USA. She also completed Dr. Ian Gawler's Guided Imagery training course in 2017, and is Certified to teach Trauma Sensitive Yoga. She facilitates Guided Relaxation both in groups and with individuals to improve health and incorporates some of the principles of understanding Trauma.

 

Also drawn to Reconnective Healing, a spectrum of healing that supports the body's natural ability to heal itself, Cathie became a Certified Reconnective Healing Practitioner. She also includes healing when required, Healing the energy lines within the body to that of the universal field of energy. 

Her extended training from the various Yoga and Meditation traditions she has trained with both Bo Forbes and Judith Hansen Lasater, the creator of Relax & Renew, Cathie shares Judith's passion for Restorative Yoga. She has studied Chakra Yoga, a complete system that draws upon a connection of our innate spiritual nature without physical reality and has gone on to create the Restorative Yoga Wisdom Training Course.
